VISITING PILLAR

What to Expect

Gathering together on Sunday morning to worship is an ancient practice of Christians across time and culture.  In the Bible we are instructed to not forsake the gathering together for God’s glorification, our edification, and public witness to our faith. Therefore, we gather every Sunday to worship God and encourage one another in the Lord.

Times

10:05am – Church should be a place of welcoming and connection where no one feels alone. Come enjoy some baked goods, fruit, or some other snack and a hot or cold drink as we prepare for our worship time. Snacks and refreshments are provided in the Fellowship Hall.

10:30am – Worship Service: Join us as we pray for church planting efforts worldwide, sing praises to our God, hear teaching from the Bible, and celebrate the Lord’s supper.

Dress

We wear everything from a jacket and slacks to shorts and a t-shirt. Please dress comfortably, but you might want to bring a jacket, as we tend to keep the sanctuary a little cooler.

Bible translation

We teach from the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB), but we recognize the benefits of various other translations.

Music style

We are mostly contemporary with our worship music style.  We also enjoy hymns and other spiritual songs. We believe that the theology and the Gospel-centered message of the songs are more important than the “feel” of the music.

Children

We seek to minister to children of all ages during our Sunday morning gatherings.  To do so we offer care and classes for newborns through 4th graders. For more information click here – Children’s Ministry.

If you have any other questions, we’d love to hear from you. Email us at [email protected].

FAQ

Questions?

How long are your services?

Our worship gatherings last about an hour and a half. We usually worship through singing, prayer, studying the Bible, taking communion, and giving our offering.

Where do you meet?

We meet in a beautiful building right outside the Lieber and Pence gates that was given to us by a church founded in the late 1800s. We’re grateful for our meeting place, but the scripture makes it clear that a church is a group of Christians, not a building.

Is parking difficult?                                                                             No, there is ample free parking in our private parking lot.

What kind of church is Pillar?

We’re a traditionally Baptist Christian church made up of individuals from various backgrounds. Pillar Woodlawn is part of a small family of churches situated near military installations around the world. We call our effort to plant these churches the “Praetorian Project”. We also cooperate in missions with the North American Mission Board’s Send Network, the International Mission Board, and the SBC of Virginia.
